Love the post...so very true. You try to do and do and do to make life better for family and then you realise what you're doing maybe isn't the best for your family. As I type, Little MIss is pulling on my leg so I will read her a book. Must do! Bye..great post again!

Great post...I have felt that way so many times...but, I have learned to take 2 minutes when I feel frusterated to remember how lucky I am to have such beautiful children who make me laugh all the time.

Just have to share a couple of comments from Twitter on this subject...

"for us, it was no sunscreen followed by baby oil as teens - ouch!"

"some people I knew in US also used Crisco which is basically Stork/Lard. Such a blissfully ignorant time!"

...at least I wasn't the only fool frying myself in cooking oil.

A great post! I think my mum would agree that when she was little my nan didn't really make a fuss od sun protection either.

I remember being covered in suncream when i was little and forced to wear a hat and such so information about sun protection must have got better in the 80's (85) when i was born.

I am the same with my 4 i always cover them with cream, hats and tops i couldn't imagine them having to suffer with horrible sun burn and i would feel ever so guilty x

Great article...one point of mention...parents need to remember to apply sunscreen 20 minutes before heading outdoors....20 minutes after you get outdoors isn't really the point :-)

What a moving post. I really enjoyed reading this and someday when Pineapple grabs the camera to click away, rather than take it from her for fear it may be damaged, I might have the foresight to value the images and her perspective over the camera itself.

Thanks for this!

I love it! -- the writing is familiar and very funny, and speaks directly to the questions that many new parents ask me.

Oh, the bain of my existence, wires, plastic that could cut my wrists (although after wrestling with needless packaging I am well on my own way to doing that) ...

I avoid Toys R Us like the plague ... I can barely even look at the store when I drive by one.

That is why at Raspberry Kids we only carry toys that are eco-friendly and have minimal or recyclable packaging including:

Sprig Toys
Plan Toys
MiYim
Ecotronics (we will be replenishing this great line soon)

And we are always on the lookout for more so if you find any great ones, please send them my way (my contact details are below).

Great post Rookie Mom Survival Guide and good luck choosing the new name for your book!
